  6. A mysterious garden hidden behind a high brick wall, a key stashed away in a forgotten room, and a young, bored and curious girl set the stage for an exciting and engaging story. My favorite childhood novel was Francis Hodgson Burnett’s classic The Secret Garden. http://www.wisdompursuit.com/?p=827

  11. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Imagine my surprise when, as a parent, I ordered a Boxcar children book and it was not the first in the series. I did not know, at that point, that there was a series. My blog post is at http://nickisnook.net/2009/10/06/great-books-week-tuesday-fav-childhood-book/

  14. Listen to the MUSTN’TS, child
    Listen to the DON’TS
    Listen to the SHOULDN’TS
    the IMPOSSIBLES, the WON’TS
    Listen to the NEVER HAVES
    then listen close to me—
    Anything can happen, child
    ANYTHING can be.
